My love of music started as a child enjoying my mother singing to Nat King Cole and other artists of her day. Moving to Hamburg, Germany in 1970, I was able to attend many great concerts from the classic rock bands era. Eric Clapton, Albert King, Santana, Genesis with Peter Gabriel, Little Feat, the Faces, Wishbone Ash among many others inspired me to become a guitar player. I began playing the guitar around 1975. Coming back to the States in 1976, I started guitar lessons learning jazz from a studnet of Link Chamberlain who was a bebop guitarist out of New York City. Returning home to San Diego in 1979 I formally pursued music and the guitar at the college level.

After completing Community College, I pursued my undergraduate degree at UCSD beginning the study the study of the classical guitar with the world renown Romero family. With the successful completion of my BA in Music, my music education continued, receiving a Masters in Music (M.M.) in Classical Guitar Performance at SDSU, all the while continuing as a pupil of the Romero's.

Since the early 1980's I have been performing professionally in the Southern California area playing in numerous situations including solo guitar, jazz groups, duets with flute players and vocalists and playing in various church music settings. Whether at a wedding, private party or corporate event, in a church, coffee shop or hospice setting, it has been a joy to play all types of music for all types of situations. Weddings are particularly enjoyable in that the music means so much to the couple. Whatever situation I play in, each event is played with professionalism and joy, using my years of practice and all the diverse inspirational styles to help make the music at each performance a special moment.

I enjoy playing many styles of music on the guitar. From traditional classical, spanish and flamenco, to jazz standards, rock tunes and the newer Nouveau Flamenco, all the genres have their place in my performances. When performing live, there are many group options beyond solo guitar that I can offer to a client. Guitar and flute combination, or Guitar and voice,  guitar duets with or without percussion and/or bass or just some of the musical settings available.

Libertino Music operates in many aspects of the music world including performance, private guitar instruction, music publishing and recording. I have had the good fortune of writing guitar books for some of the worlds great guitar players. Take a look at my Transcribing and Engraving Gallery page to view the many projects I have been involved along with samples of the work completed.

Some of the artists I have written books for include Ottmar Liebert, The Ventures,  Phil Keaggy, Joni Mitchell, Dan Crary and the late french great Marcel Dadi.

I have been involved with music production, song writing, arranging and recording for myself and others. Currently, one project involves compiling the music for my first CD, recording the songs in my home studio. Songwriters have used my services to arrange songs for demo level production to full CD production with Gospel choirs and full band.

As an educator my teaching career has includeded over 20 years of service at MiraCosta Community College, a stint at Palomar College and several music stores. Some of the classes taught at college include 'Beginning Music Theory for the Guitar' for which I have written a text book by the same name (see related web pages) along with Guitar Ensemble, Beginning and Intermediate Classical and regular guitar.

Thank you for visiting my web site. For future information, news of upcoming projects and performance schedule please bookmark the home page and come back for a visit.
